Bruce Patterson was appointed as Saint-Laurent Herald and Registrar of the Canadian Heraldic Authority in 2008; prior to that, he served as Saguenay Herald and Assistant Registrar since 2000. In the 1990s, he was a member of the Board of Directors at both the National and Toronto Branch levels of the Heraldry Society of Canada, and from 1994 to 2000 he edited the Toronto Branch publication Hogtown Heraldry. He drew the cartoons and some other illustrations for the Canadian Heraldic Primer. Prior to his appointment at the Canadian Heraldic Authority, Bruce worked in Toronto as a secondary school teacher in English and history. Bruce is a Fellow of the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada, an associate of the Académie internationale d'héraldique, and a Serving Member of the Most Venerable Order of St. John.
