Ian Charles Steingaszner, FRHSC (Hon)

Captain Ian Steingaszner, has been a member of the Society since 1983. As a Certified Management Accountant, he saw an opportunity to support the Society in its efforts to restructure its operations. In 2006, he was appointed Treasurer and began streamlining the financial administration of the Society by introducing management practices which maximized the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of operations of the Society.

Ian has a long standing interest in Heraldry going back to his childhood. He was introduced to the Society by the late Colonel Iain MacKay. Colonel MacKay was a former officer of the 48th Highlanders, a Regiment where Ian was then serving as a Piper. Ian was granted his own arms in 1997 which were based on the Austrian grant of arms carried by his father.In addition to his work with the Society, Ian is actively involved with St. John Ambulance where he currently serves as the Treasurer for St. John Council for Ontario. His other interests include collecting and researching Orders, Decorations and Medals. He served the medal collecting community in a number of roles. He was President of the Canadian Society of Military Medals and Insignia from 1992-1996, and then continued to serve as its Treasurer from 1996-2008. From 1989-2002, he served as Toronto Branch Secretary of the Orders and Medals Research Society.

Ian is a commissioned officer serving with the Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) – an infantry regiment of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserves. Other interests include equitation, military history and woodworking.
